James Keanu was born on October 16, 1923 in Honolulu and passed away on December 5. 2004. He was a former Kuhio Beachboy Oldtimer and a charter member of Waikiki Surf Club. Also Army retired World War II, Korean War Veteran and Island Holidays Tour Escort. Member of American Legion Post 11, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2845, and Special Forces Chapter.

Survived by wife Josephine, “Jojo’ sons: Jammer T. “Squeaky: and James M. “Boomer;, daughters Tehanei (Bert) Ferreira and Pinky Keanu (companion Griffith Kamai). Granddaughter Deja Kamai (companion David Kauhane). Grandsons: Henry (Tisha) Kidder, Keanu Isaiah Kamai and Brian Enoka Ferreira. Also survived by brothers Rabbit (Lynn) Kekai, Hank “Niga” (Mele) )Kekai and Martin (Kuuipo) Kaninau and also survived by nieces and nephews.
